Children, guests, and well-behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are comfortable hiking 3–5 miles on moderate terrain.

Presentation Overview:

This workshop delves into the intricate dynamics of shame and anxiety and their influence on sex therapy practices across diverse genders, with a special focus on working with men, including trans men. By addressing these critical issues, therapists can empower their clients to tackle sexual and relational challenges more effectively. Guided by David F. Khalili, LMFT, from Rouse Relational Wellness and Rouse Academy, and author of The Mental Health Workbook for Men, this session promises engaging discussions, vivid vignettes, and practical tools for addressing sexual shame and anxiety in men. Whether you are an experienced sex therapist or don’t know how to talk about sex with clients, this training offers valuable insights and strategies to enhance your practice.

Educational Goals:

The program focuses on helping clients reduce anxiety and shame related to sex. Participants will acquire skills in utilizing practical assessment tools and techniques to effectively understand the impact of shame and anxiety on sexual concerns, leading to increased comfort discussing sex in therapy. Participants will also learn techniques to help clients address sexual anxiety and shame, and improve confidence in their sexual selves.

Learning Objectives:

a. Participants will be able to identify four key principles of the biopsychosocial approach to sex therapy.

b. Participants will be able to name four techniques to help clients address sexual anxiety and shame.

c. Participants will be able to state five reasons shame and anxiety impact sexual functioning.

d. Participants will be able to identify four strategies to empower clients to improve confidence in communicating about sex.

Presentation by:

David F. Khalili, LMFT

David F Khalili is a licensed marriage and family therapist, board-certified sexologist, and founder of Rouse Relational Wellness, a boutique couples and sex therapy center in San Francisco, and authored Mental Health Workbook for Men and Sex Worriers: A Mindfully Queer Guide for Men’s Anxiety to Sex and Dating. David pulls from many influences in the world of mental health and sexual wellness, as well as cultural and spiritual influences from his heritage from Iran. David aims to help those in the margins feel less lonely and more connected with their communities. Specializing in couples and sex therapy, David draws from his diverse background, which includes peer sex education, work in adult boutiques, and a Master's degree in Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University. Continuing Education Credit

Certificates will be distributed upon completion of an Evaluation. Participants will only receive credit for actual attendance.

Course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

The Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (Provider #62273) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs. Grievances

While the Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT makes every effort to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there may be occasional issues with regard to presentations/workshops which will require intervention and/or action on the part of the board. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

When a participant files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:

The participant(s) will be asked to put concerns in writing (this can be in electronic form, such as an email).

If the grievance concerns a presenter, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put their comments in written format. The Board will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.

If the grievance concerns a presentation/workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Board will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Board will:

provide a credit for a subsequent presentation/workshop or

provide a partial or full refund of the presentation/workshop fee

This law and ethics-focused training is designed for mental health professionals who are paneled with insurance companies, considering becoming in-network, or seeing clients who wish to use out-of-network benefits. While insurance provides increased access to care, it also introduces complex legal and ethical obligations. During the training, Ms. Jasper will discuss how to fully inform patients about insurance issues at the outset of treatment, bill accurately and respond to records requests and audits in a manner that complies with state and federal confidentiality laws.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify essential insurance-related disclosures that must be included in the informed consent process at the outset of treatment. .
Implement informed consent procedures that fully notify patients about insurance issues and financial responsibilities at the start of treatment.
Execute accurate billing practices to ensure compliance with insurance company requirements and professional standards.
Identify common reasons for insurance record requests and audits.
Respond to records requests and insurance audits effectively while maintaining adherence to state and federal confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA.

Sara Jasper, JD, CAMFT Staff Attorney

Sara M. Jasper grew up in the Sacramento area. She graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Chico with a B.A. in Journalism. While attending CSUC, Sara Interned for Scripps Howard News Service in Washington, D.C. and served as an editor for the award-winning weekly student newspaper, The Orion. Sara attended The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law where she served as a library research assistant to professors on campus. During law school, she also clerked for the California Judicial Council, Center for Children, Families & the Courts and for the National Center for Youth Law. Until she moved to San Diego last fall, Sara was on the Board of Directors for Sacramento Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A.) and is a member of the State Bar of California. Prior to joining CAMFT, Sara worked at the private firm of Middleton, Young & Minney, LLP where she specialized in education and employment law. Sara also worked as the Legal Liaison and Administrative Officer in the Office of the Chief of Police for the City of Sacramento for three years. She assumed her role with the City of Sacramento's Police Department upon graduating from law school.

Training Description

Regardless of the types of patients you work with or your practice setting, you never know when a current or former patient (or even a colleague) might throw an ethical or legal curveball your way. In this 6-hour in-person presentation, CAMFT Staff Attorney Kristin Roscoe will provide attendees with a brief update on some of the legal changes coming in 2027 before we dive into the full day. We will work together to unpack recent BBS enforcement actions and administrative citations to better understand risks around topics such as therapist disclosure, dual relationships, and writing letters before delving further into the many issues that might arise when dealing with the court system. By the end of the day, attendees will have a better sense of how to better navigate some of those more legally and ethically challenging scenarios when vignettes play out later in real life.

Training Measurable Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

· Identify new California laws that may change the landscape for Marriage and Family Therapists in 2027.

· Identify boundary and dual-relationship risks that can arise with current and former clients and apply strategies for managing those risks.

· Evaluate requests to write letters, provide opinions, or communicate with third parties and distinguish clinically appropriate documentation from communications that may create legal or ethical exposure.

· Apply legal and ethical principles to common interactions with courts, attorneys, subpoenas, court orders, and requests for records or testimony.

Kristin takes CAMFT member phone calls regarding law and ethics issues and contributes articles on those subjects to the Therapist. Before joining CAMFT’s legal team, Kristin represented healthcare professionals in medical malpractice litigation. Since entering the legal profession, Kristin has worked in various capacities presenting to and advocating on behalf of her clients both in and outside of the courtroom. In her free time, Kristin loves spending time with her family outdoors and serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors for CalWild, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Kristin received her B.A. in Political Science from The College of Wooster in 2006 and graduated from The American University Washington College of Law with her J.D. in 2012. Kristin is licensed to practice law in California and Washington, D.C.
